Volunteers' Week 2019
In June 2019 Volunteers’ Week, led by the NCVO, recognised, celebrated and thanked volunteers across the UK.
NHS at 70: The Story of Our Lives took the opportunity to celebrate contributions from our volunteers and thank them for all their time, energy and commitment to the project.
Volunteers are central to our project. Together, with our volunteers, we are creating the first Digital Archive of NHS history that will capture the central place of the NHS in everyday life and work. This will be a permanent and immensely valuable resource for many different communities.
To date we have trained over 100 volunteers, and will train another 60 in the next phase of the project. Our volunteers have donated over 5,000 hours of their time to the project, conducting oral history interviews, writing summaries, co-producing content and supporting engagement across all the localities. Volunteers report feeling more connected and valued as a result of volunteering.
Volunteers add value that can’t be measured. The range of skills, experience and knowledge in our volunteer team is reflected in the diverse and inclusive oral history recordings we have collected to date.
Inspired to get involved? We will be recruiting volunteers from August 2019 in the South West/ Exeter, Nottingham, Belfast and Essex.
